Working Group

The Ballston Park and Buckingham Commercial Area Planning Study Working Group is charged by the County Manager to collaborate with County staff and provide community, commission, resident, business, housing, historic preservation, and planning perspectives throughout the planning study process. More specifically, the objectives for the Working Group are to:

  • Review and provide feedback on technical analyses, community engagement results, and planning concepts developed during the study.
  • Seek approaches that balance:
  • Extension of existing housing affordability;
  • Minimization of resident displacement;
  • Preservation of the historic and architectural significance of Buckingham Village;
  • Countywide housing, transportation, environmental, and planning goals; and
  • Financial feasibility and implementation considerations.
  • Provide input on potential modifications to Local Historic District boundaries and associated preservation and redevelopment tradeoffs.
  • Help identify community priorities, concerns, opportunities, and challenges throughout the planning process.
  • Provide input on alternative scenarios, preferred concept(s), and recommendations for a Policy Framework that may guide future planning, historic preservation, housing, and redevelopment decisions within the study area.
  • Serve as a consistent advisory body throughout the study process and provide feedback at key project milestones.
  • Act as liaisons to their respective groups and commissions, sharing information and gathering feedback for discussion with the Working Group.
