Some properties have unused wells, often uncovered during construction. Arlington’s Public Health Division helps residents manage wells—whether sealing old ones or installing geothermal systems.

Geothermal Wells

Geothermal wells use heat from underground to warm and cool buildings. They’re becoming more common as a way to cut energy costs and protect the environment.

To install a geothermal well:

  • Contact Arlington’s Public Health Division at 703-228-7444, option 4 or ehealth@arlingtonva.us. We coordinate with Fairfax County for well permits and inspections.
  • Hire a licensed Well Water Supply Provider. Fairfax County provides a list of contractors on their website.
  • Get a permit
