ACSO Implements Body-Worn Cameras as part of ongoing Safety Initiative

Arlington, VA – April 21, 2026 – The Arlington County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) is implementing a body-worn camera (BWC) program within the Arlington County Detention Facility, marking a significant step forward in enhancing safety, transparency, and accountability. ACSO has issued Axon body-worn cameras to deputies across several operational areas, expanding the use of this technology beyond civil process and transportation into the detention facility. This initiative reflects the Office’s continued commitment to professional standards and best practices in corrections. “One of my top priorities is maintaining a safe, progressive jail that supports both staff and those in our custody,” said Sheriff Jose Quiroz. “Body-worn cameras strengthen transparency, support our deputies in their daily work, and enhance safety throughout the facility.” Maintaining a safe and secure environment is key to correctional operations, and body-worn cameras are increasingly recognized as an effective tool in supporting that goal. Agencies that have implemented similar programs have reported:

• Reductions in assaults on staff
• Decreases in use-of-force incidents
• Fewer grievances by incarcerated individuals
