ACSO Deputies Graduate from Session 151

Academy Session 151 Inaugural Deputy School

ARLINGTON, Va. – Monday, November 25, eight new deputies of the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office graduated from the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy (NVCJTA) as part of Session 151. These new deputies and their classmates from both the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office and Loudon County Sheriff’s Office, successfully completed 10 weeks of training in NVCJTA’s inaugural Deputy School. Deputy School focuses on Defensive Tactics, Firearms Training, Emergency Vehicle Operations, and Legal Studies, preparing them to serve and protect their communities with distinction. The Friday prior, the deputies stood in a county courtroom among colleagues, family and friends and were sworn in by Arlington Clerk of the Circuit Court Paul Ferguson. They will now complete several weeks of in-house training before starting their regular assignments at the Arlington County Detention Facility.   

“Graduating from the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy is a testament to the perseverance, hard work, and commitment of our recruit deputies,” said Sheriff Jose Quiroz. “They are now prepared to serve Arlington County with professionalism, compassion, and integrity. As they begin their careers in roles across the Sheriff’s Office, I have every confidence in their ability to uphold our mission of protecting and supporting our community.”

Two of the new sheriff deputies were recognized with the following achievements at graduation: 

  • Deputies Dietrich and Long were in the top three highest scores for Academic Excellence.
  • Deputy Dietrich received third place for the Firearms Award 
  • Deputy Long was Session 151’s Class President 

 

About the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy (NVCJA) 

After being hired by the Department, the new officers began their training at the NVCJA, a regional academy offering high quality, professional training to recruit officers who will go on to serve agencies in Northern Virginia. New officers enrolled in the basic training program complete over 800 hours of training curriculum, which orients them to the diverse day-to-day challenges experienced by law enforcement personnel while on the job. In addition to basic training, NVCJA offers in-service training programs to officers throughout their careers.
