ACA Audit 2025

Arlington, VA – December 15, 2025 - The Arlington County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) is pleased to announce that the Arlington County Detention Facility successfully completed their reaccreditation audit conducted by the American Correctional Association (ACA), a national leader in setting professional standards for correctional agencies. The Sheriff’s Office has been ACA accredited for more than thirty years, and reaccreditation is a continuation of initial accreditation occurring every three years.

The Arlington County Detention Facility earned a score of 99.42%, which consists of both mandatory and nonmandatory standards. The ACA audit was conducted over a span of three days, auditing 436 standards, reviewing Sheriff’s Office policies, procedures, and daily operations. Standards set for and by the ACA, cover all areas of the facility, including safety, security, medical care, food service, programs, and operations. The auditors were given a tour of the facility, met with leadership, line staff, inmates, attended roll calls and observed the overall operations of the Detention Facility.

The auditors were all corrections professionals with decades of experience who were selected and trained by ACA. The auditors praised the cleanliness of the facility, the professionalism and knowledge of ACSO staff, the high-level security operation, and the many programs and opportunities available for those in our custody. Sheriff José Quiroz said the reaccreditation speaks volumes about the sheriff’s office staff who serve Arlington every day. “This successful audit is a testament of the compassion and dedication my staff brings to a profession that is both difficult and vital. The work inside a detention facility is challenging and often unseen, but it is critical to public safety and to the community.”

The ACSO will be presented with their official certificate of accreditation at the ACA Winter Conference in February 2026.
