K9 Unit
Meet the K9 Heroes of the Arlington County Sheriff's Office!
At the Arlington County Sheriff's Office, we're proud to introduce our exceptional K9 team, a group of highly trained and specialized dogs that serve and protect our community in unique ways. These furry deputies are not only vital assets to law enforcement but also beloved members of our team and community. Here's a closer look at our three incredible K9s:
Hope - Wellness and Community Engagement
K9 Hope, a one-year-old Dudley yellow Labrador Retriever, serves as the ACSO wellness and community engagement K9. Paired with Corporal Zajkowski, Hope is trained to provide comfort and emotional support to deputies, professional staff, and members of the community. She has received recognition in AKC Canine Good Citizen, Urban Canine Good Citizen, Community Canine and Temperament Test. Through her work at community events and within office operations, Hope contributes to stress reduction, employee wellness, and positive public interaction. Her presence supports the Sheriff’s Office’s broader commitment to staff well-being and community connection.
Logan - Drugs and Electronics Detection
K9 Logan, an eight-year-old black Labrador Retriever, serves as a highly specialized detection K9 with a unique dual certification. He is trained and certified to detect electronic storage devices, including cell phones, USB drives, and hard drives, as well as illegal narcotics, even in trace amounts. Logan is the only K9 in the Commonwealth of Virginia with both certifications, placing him among a very limited number of K9s nationwide with this capability. Originally a rescue dog, Logan was donated to the ACSO by the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. He is paired with Corporal Camardi, and together they have completed extensive certification and ongoing training programs. Their work plays a critical role in supporting investigations, maintaining facility safety, and assisting partner agencies.
Weaver - Explosives Detection and Search and Recovery
K9 Weaver, a two-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever, is assigned to the Court Security section. Paired with Corporal McCabe, Weaver is trained to detect explosive materials and assist in securing the Courthouse, public spaces, and large-scale events. In addition to explosives detection, Weaver is trained in search and recovery operations, providing an added layer of response capability during critical incidents. Her role enhances the ACSO’s preparedness and contributes to maintaining a safe and secure environment for the Arlington community.
