ARLINGTON, Va., June 23, 2025 - The Arlington County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce that two local students, J. Mazel and H. Ramirez Cuellar, have been awarded scholarships through the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute (VSI) Scholarship Program. This year, VSI awarded a total of 49 scholarships valued at $47,000 to deserving individuals across the Commonwealth who are pursuing college degrees in criminal justice at Virginia colleges and universities.
Mazel, a graduate from Wakefield High School, will be attending George Mason University in the fall, while Ramirez Cuellar, a graduate of Washington Liberty High School, is a current George Mason University student pursuing his degree in the field.
The VSI Scholarship Program provides $1,000 scholarships to full-time students and $500 scholarships to part-time students to help support their educational goals in public safety and criminal justice fields. These awards are made possible by the generous contributions of individual, associate, and business members of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute.
“We are incredibly proud to see two outstanding students from Arlington recognized with this honor," said Sheriff Jose Quiroz. "Their commitment to the field of criminal justice reflects the spirit of service and leadership we value in our community. We wish them continued success as they work toward becoming the next generation of public safety professionals."
