ACSO COMMAND STAFF EARN CERTIFICATES FROM VIRGINIA SHERIFFS’ INSTITUTE

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Arlington County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) is proud to recognize Major Sean Elston and Captain Angi Souder for completing the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute (VSI) Certification Program. 

The program was created in collaboration with the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association (VSA), the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), and the National Center for Policing Innovation (NCPI) to recognize Virginia’s sheriffs and deputies for their commitment to professional development.

Participation in the Certification Program is voluntary, and applicants must meet certain requirements in the areas of Life Experience and Career Development to prove their concerted and continuous efforts toward professional growth. Eligibility for certification is determined through an applicant’s education level, years of public safety experience, and participation in training and professional development courses.

“We are proud of Major Elston and Captain Souder for this great achievement,” Sheriff Jose Quiroz said. Not only is it a demonstration of their commitment to our values here at the ACSO, but a reflection of their dedication toward advancing public safety as a whole.”

Certificates are presented during the annual VSI Spring conference. Recipients are considered “VSI Certified” or “VSIC” for four years following the date of certification.

The Arlington County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) is a Nationally Accredited Law Enforcement Agency located in Northern Virginia. The ACSO has approximately 300 employees, both deputy sheriffs and civilian staff, who serve a population of 240,900 county residents.
