ASAP (Alcohol Safety Action Program)
About the Program:
The Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program (VASAP) is a court-mandated program for individuals convicted of driving under the influence (DUI), certain drug-related offenses, and other qualifying offenses in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Our office is one of 22 local ASAP programs serving communities throughout Virginia. Together, these local programs work in partnership with the courts and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to provide probation monitoring, education, and intervention services designed to promote public safety and reduce impaired driving. Arlington ASAP’s service area included Arlington County and the City of Falls Church.
VASAP's mission is to improve highway safety by decreasing the incidence of driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs, leading to a reduction in alcohol- and drug-related crashes, injuries, and fatalities.
Program Requirements
Participation in VASAP is generally ordered by a Virginia court or required by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Upon enrollment, each participant completes an assessment to determine the most appropriate level of intervention based on court requirements and individual needs.
Depending on the assessment, participants may be required to complete one or more of the following:
• Alcohol and/or drug education
• Treatment services
• Probation monitoring
• Ignition interlock or remote alcohol monitoring (when ordered)
• Other court- or DMV-required interventions
ASAP staff monitor each participant's compliance and progress throughout the program. Reports are submitted to the referring court and/or the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, as required.

Monday–Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
New Enrollments
Individuals who have been referred to the program may walk in during normal business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.) to complete their initial enrollment. No appointment is necessary however referral paperwork from either the court or DMV are required.
Current Participants
Once you have completed enrollment and have been assigned a case manager, appointments are by appointment only, Monday through Thursday. Please contact your case manager in advance to determine whether an in-person meeting is necessary or if your needs can be addressed through alternative methods.
For your convenience, walk-in hours for existing participants are available every Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Holiday and Courthouse Closures
Our office observes all federal and county holidays. Because we are located within the county courthouse, our office is also closed whenever the courthouse is closed due to holidays, inclement weather, emergencies, or other authorized closures.
