Adults. On July 11-12, 1864, the fate of the nation hung in the balance when a large Confederate army attacked Washington, D.C. in what has become known as the Battle of Fort Stevens. Join park staff on the 161st anniversary of the battle to learn what led to this deadly clash and how a scrappy U.S. force saved the capital city and the Union itself.
