Causes of Butterfly Declines
Adults. Join us for a discussion of the causes of butterfly population decline in the time of an "insect apocalypse." Georgetown Professor Leslie Ries will present up-to-date science on the patterns of butterfly declines and their causes throughout the U.S. and Canada. Evidence suggests that while climate has a large impact on changes in butterfly community composition, overall declines are more likely related to new classes of pesticides, especially neonicotinoids when applied as seed coatings.
