Opera Appreciation

For opera lovers and learners, enhance your appreciation of the magnificent art and drama of opera. Volunteer George Cecchetti will set the stage for each opera, providing the story line, composer and other interesting background. Musical selections from well-known operas will be played, professional commentary provided and group discussion will follow. 3/1: Un Ballo in Maschera (The Masked) by Verdi; 3/15: L'Italiana in Algeri (The Italian Girl in Algiers) by Rossini; 4/5: Gotterdammerung (The Twilight of the Gods), the last opera in The Ring Cycle by Wagner; 4/19: The Life of Giacomo Puccini, The Search for the Intimate; 5/10: Gianni Schicchi by Puccini and Bluebeard’s Castle by Bartok; 5/17: Peter Grimes by Benjamin Britten.
