About this Park
The John Robinson, Jr. Town Square is a community gathering place to connect with neighbors and enjoy events on the stage and learn about the neighborhood's rich heritage. Designed by notable landscape architect and artist Walter Hood, the space features his art piece titled FREED, an outdoor stage, tables and seating, checkered game tables, casual-use space and more.
Watch a video of the artist as he shares what drew him to the John Robinson, Jr. Town Square project.
The town square is surrounded by South Shirlington Road, South Kenmore Street, and South 24th Street in the heart of the Green Valley community in Arlington, Virginia, and is named for civic activist John Robinson, Jr., an Arlington-born community activist. Mr. Robinson (1934-2010), often called the "Mayor of Green Valley," fought for decades against racial injustice and inequality in northern Virginia.
