What is a collaborative agreement?

A collaborative agreement is a collaboration between Arlington County Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and an individual, group, organization or business that has a similar mission and goal as DPR that expands or strengthens existing programs and services through a special event, activity, program or facility improvement.

What types of collaborations are welcomed?

  • Financial contributions and in-kind gifts
  • Capital improvement
  • Funding facility maintenance

Why should I collaborate with DPR?

DPR promotes wellness and vitality through dynamic programs and attractive public spaces. Our facilities range from parks, sports fields, nature and community centers to spray grounds, playgrounds and a skate park.  We are stewards of the County’s natural resources and provide affordable recreational programs and services for people of all ages, abilities and interests. By partnering with DPR, you can help make Arlington a happy and healthy place to live, learn, work and play along with gaining valuable recognition for your contributions.

How do I collaborate with DPR?

To collaborate with DPR, you must first submit an application. Your application and proposal will be reviewed by staff. If the information provided on the application fits with DPR’s mission and vision, your application will be evaluated against a number of additional criteria. You will be notified of your application status whether approved or not.

Do I need to be an Arlington resident or business based in Arlington?

No.

Is there an application fee?

No, there is no application fee.

What is DPR looking for in a partner?

An ideal partner supports DPR’s vision and mission and will be ready and prepared to implement their proposed project, program or service once the collaborative agreement is signed with the County.

What if I want my financial contribution or partnership to remain private?

Please indicate on the application that you wish to remain anonymous.  We will work with you to respect your wishes.

What forms of payment are accepted for financial contributions?

We accept check, money order, and credit card (Visa and MasterCard).

Is my charitable contribution tax deductible?

In general, as long as your contribution is used for entirely public purposes and you receive nothing of value in exchange for this contribution, then yes, the contribution should be tax deductible. You should consult with a qualified tax advisor regarding the tax consequences of any donation. Since Arlington County is a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the County is qualified to receive tax-deductible contributions.

How long will the application review process last?

We try to communicate decisions within 30 days of submission, but timing may vary based on the volume of applicants.
