Families/Adults

The Arlington County Fire Department offers a variety of services and programs aimed at families and adults to promote fire and life safety, and emergency preparedness.

Public Education for Adults

The Fire Department also provides brief fire safety presentations to businesses, civic associations, healthcare institutions, group homes or other community groups in Arlington.

Topics vary by request but may include:

  • Fire prevention
  • Evacuation
  • Fire protection systems
  • Home escape plan
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Cooking safety
  • Electrical/Heating Safety

Community Connect Program

Community Connect is a free, secure platform that allows residents to share critical information about their households with first responders. By providing details such as residence type, contact information, and any specific needs, emergency personnel can respond more effectively during emergencies.

The following resources are also available through Community Connect.

  • Free smoke alarms and installation for Arlington residents may be requested
  • Evacuation assistance is made possible through the Functional Needs Registry for when occupants cannot evacuate independently.

Fire Safety Education for Older Adults

Recognizing that older adults are at higher risk during fires, the Fire Department offers specialized programs on fire safety and falls prevention. These programs include presentations and resources tailored to the needs of our older adults. If interested in learning about the NFPA's Steps to Safety program, click here. Youth Firesetting Prevention and Intervention

For families with children, the Fire Department offers programs supporting youth who have exhibited unsafe fire behaviors or have an unusual interest in fire. The program aims to educate and intervene to prevent potential fire-related incidents.
