Arlington County's hypothermia shelter opens November 1st through March 31st. The Homeless Services Center (HSC), located at 2020-A 14th St N (Courthouse area) offers 50 year-round beds, five medical-respite beds, and has an additional 25 hypothermia beds during the winter months. The Residential Program Center (RPC) has an additional 15 beds designated to handle overflow in the event of extremely severe weather. During this period individuals seeking emergency shelter do not have to call ahead; they can show up at the HSC and coordinate an intake with the Department of Human Services the next business day.
People staying at shelter get a safe place to sleep as well as food, a hot shower, laundry facilities, and access to a range of services through the Department of Human Services and community partners.
The Department of Human Services Community Assistance Bureau (CAB) is the first call to make for help if you or someone you know is, or is at risk of, experiencing homelessness. We help Arlington residents find shelter, emergency food, housing, and other vital services. Referrals can be made to all Arlington County shelters. The Community Assistance Bureau can be reached at 703-228-1300 or by following the instruction below:
If you or someone you know is experiencing homelessness or is at risk of experiencing homelessness, visit the Homeless Services main page.
Each year, the Continuum of Care conducts a Point-in-Time Count to understand the scope of homelessness in our community. Read the 2026 Arlington County PIT Count summary(PDF, 240KB). Data from Arlington, VA is part of a regional analysis and annual report on homelessness by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) Homeless Services Planning and Coordinating Committee.
