Jury Finds Man Guilty of Breaking and Entering with Intent to Commit Murder, Abduction, Rape, and Firearm Offenses

October 20, 2026, ARLINGTON, VA: On October 15, 2026, following a three-day trial, a jury found Johnson Wan guilty of Breaking and Entering with Intent to Commit Murder, Rape, or Abduction, Rape Abduction, and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony arising from the abduction and sexual assault of his former girlfriend.

In the early morning hours of March 8, 2026, Mr. Wan forcibly entered the victim’s Arlington apartment while she was asleep by breaking the apartment’s physical security latch. Once inside, he handcuffed the victim, placed tape over her mouth, and pointed a firearm at her head. During the next approximately 48 hours, Mr. Wan held the victim against her will, repeatedly threatened to kill her, and raped her. He also told the victim that her apartment was under surveillance, that he was monitoring her electronic devices, and that he had taken her passport.

The victim escaped Mr. Wan’s control when she arrived at work and immediately sought assistance from her manager before reporting the crimes to law enforcement. Wan was arrested the following day. A search of his vehicle recovered the victim’s passport and a firearm that Mr. Wan had purchased three days before the offenses. Investigators also discovered that he had secretly installed surveillance cameras inside the victim’s apartment and had been monitoring their footage.

“The victim suffered an unimaginable and terrifying 48 hours that she will live with for the rest of her life. This verdict holds the defendant accountable and ensures he will not do this again,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti. “We are grateful to the victim for her courage throughout this case and to the Arlington County Police Department, victim advocates, and prosecution team for their work in securing justice. As always, I am grateful to the jurors for their service.”

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Nassir Aboreden and Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Allison Thibault.  A sentencing hearing will be scheduled following a future status date. Wan faces up to life in prison.
