County Board Seeks Feedback on RCV in General Election Race

Published on October 15, 2024

The Arlington County Board is currently collecting community feedback on the use of Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) in the 2024 County Board general election race. Voters can share their experiences using RCV in this general election, and their overall sentiments regarding the voting system, via this online feedback form, which closes on November 19, 2024. While the Board encourages voters to use this form to share their experience, they may also write to countyboard@arlingtonva.us or call 703-228-3130 to submit comments.

The form takes 3 to 5 minutes to complete. Feedback will be reviewed and presented to the Board for consideration as it determines whether to use RCV in future County Board elections. Participants should note that the contents of this feedback form are subject to release under FOIA.

About Ranked Choice Voting in Arlington
In July 2020, the Virginia General Assembly passed a bill allowing localities to implement RCV in elections of members of a County Board of Supervisors or a City Council. The Arlington County Board piloted Ranked-Choice Voting in the 2023 County Board primary and then voted to expand its use to all subsequent County Board primaries. The Board is now piloting this voting method in the 2024 general election.
