Police Announce Arrest of Maryland Man in Property Crimes Series

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Arlington County Police Department is announcing the arrest of a suspect in a series of property crimes targeting Arlington homes and a business. Duane Barnes, 34, of Waldorf, MD, is charged with Burglary (x3), Grand Larceny (x8), Larceny with Intent to Sell (x5), Petit Larceny (x3) and Destruction of Property (x3). He is being held in the Arlington County Detention Facility.

The suspect’s 22 criminal charges stem from the following 11 incidents:

  • At approximately 3:36 p.m. on December 16, 2025, police were dispatched to the 2400 block of N. Underwood Street for the report of a residential burglary. The suspect forced entry into the home and stole electronics and jewelry before fleeing the scene.
  • At approximately 12:09 p.m. on December 22, 2025, police were dispatched to the 100 block of S. Irving Street for the report of a residential burglary. The suspect forced entry into the home and stole electronics and jewelry before fleeing the scene.
  • At approximately 12:04 p.m. on January 6, 2026, police were dispatched to the 2500 block of McKinley Street for the report of a breaking and entering. The suspect forced entry into a home, rummaged through the interior and stole jewelry. The suspect fled the scene when the victim returned to the residence.
  • On eight occasions between July 2025 – January 2026, the suspect entered a retail store in the 1400 block of S. Hayes Street and stole clothing, totaling thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise.

Police conducted a thorough criminal investigation which led to the identification of the suspect. Warrants were obtained for his arrest and he was taken into custody in Maryland on January 16. He was subsequently extradited to the Commonwealth of Virginia.
