Arlington Man Arrested in Shots Fired Incident

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Arlington County Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Unit is announcing the arrest of the suspect in a shots fired incident that occurred at the basketball courts at Gunston Middle School on July 25, 2026. Adrian Dwight Taylor, 51, of Arlington, VA is charged with Attempted Malicious Wounding (x9), Shooting on School Property, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Possession of Ammunition by a Convicted Felon. He is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility.

At approximately 9:56 p.m., police were dispatched to the 1400 block of 28th Street S. for the report of shots heard. The investigation determined that the suspect was participating in a basketball game with several individuals when he became involved in a verbal dispute with multiple people on the court. Following the dispute, he retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and fired multiple rounds toward an occupied basketball court where numerous individuals, many of them juveniles, remained present. The suspect then fled the scene prior to police arrival. No injuries or property damage were reported.

Detectives immediately launched a comprehensive criminal investigation and recovered evidence linking the suspect to the incident. Warrants were obtained for the suspect’s arrest and he was taken into custody in the 2400 block of S. Army Navy Drive during the early morning hours of August 17, 2026.

This remains an active criminal investigation and detectives believe there may be additional victims who have not yet been identified.
