Police Host 2025 Don’t Press Your Luck Anti-Drunk Driving Event
Published on March 07, 2025
ARLINGTON, Va. – St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Monday this year, meaning celebrations will be in full swing the weekend leading up to and on March 17. Unfortunately, some will make the dangerous decision to get behind the wheel after drinking, putting themselves and other travelers at risk of serious harm. Stay lucky and stay alive by planning your sober ride home ahead of your sham-rockin’ festivities - whether it’s by using a rideshare service, taxi, public transportation, or designated sober driver. It’s important to remember Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving and even a small amount of alcohol can affect driving ability.
According to data from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA), 13,524 people were killed nationally in drunk-driving crashes in 2022. 290 lives were lost in drunk-driving crashes during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday period (6:00 p.m. March 16 to 5:59 a.m. March 18) between 2018 and 2022. Impaired driving is preventable and is the reason the Arlington County Police Department is working with NHTSA to remind drivers that drunk driving is not only illegal, it can be a matter of life and death.
