UPDATED: Police Investigate Shooting in Columbia Heights Neighborhood

UPDATED (8/1/25) – The Arlington County Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Unit is announcing additional arrests in the shooting that occurred on September 2, 2024, in the 1200 block of S. Ross Street.
Delante Thompson, 30, of Baltimore, MD was taken into custody on July 24 and was charged with Abduction (x2), Use of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Attempted Aggravated Malicious Wounding (x2), Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Malicious Wounding (x2), Prevent a Call to 911, Destruction of Property and Reckless Handling of a Firearm.
Davon Harris, 28, of Waldorf, MD was also taken into custody on July 24 and was charged with Abduction (x2), Use of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Attempted Aggravated Malicious Wounding (x2), Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Malicious Wounding (x2) and Destruction of Property.
Both suspects were extradited to the Commonwealth of Virginia and are being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility.

ARLINGTON, Va. (Originally published 9/3/24) – The Arlington County Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Unit is investigating a shooting that took place in the Columbia Heights neighborhood on the afternoon of September 2.
At approximately 1:56 p.m. on September 2, police responded to the 1200 block of S. Ross Street for multiple reports of shots heard in the area. The preliminary investigation indicates two groups became involved in a verbal dispute during which suspects from each group brandished and discharged firearms. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
One group fled the scene in a vehicle. The other group ran from the scene and responding officers located and detained them in the 1300 block of S. Scott Street. During the course of the investigation, a firearm was recovered.
Patrick Nya, 26, of No Fixed Address was arrested and charged with Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Attempted Shooting Missiles at an Occupied Vehicle.
