Fire Department First in Virginia to Use Life-Saving Medical Device

The Arlington County Fire Department (ACFD) has made a leap in emergency medical care, becoming the first fire department in Virginia to acquire the state-of-the-art LIFEPAK 35 monitor/defibrillator. This new, lightweight device includes a digital touchscreen and clinically advanced therapy tools to help save patients in cardiac arrest.

"This equipment will allow the Arlington County Fire Department to continue to deliver high-quality emergency medical services to the visitors and residents of Arlington County well into the future,” said Fire Chief David Povlitz. “This equipment will undoubtedly save lives.”

The LIFEPAK 35’s features are designed to enhance CPR performance and expedite critical care. Its advanced connected capabilities enable rapid data transmission to hospitals, allowing for swift analysis and preparation. Additionally, the device boasts a live view 12-lead / 15-lead EKG with advanced insights, significantly improving the diagnosis of heart attacks in the field.

The implementation of this life-saving technology is set for fall 2024. This strategic upgrade aligns with the department's commitment to leveraging new technology to enhance public safety and emergency care.

The acquisition of 37 LIFEPAK 35 units is part of the ACFD’s significant $3.6 million investment in advanced medical devices that included 19 Lucas chest compression systems and12 CR2 Defibrillators.
