Media Advisory: New Group Home Opening in Arlington
Published on September 27, 2023
Arlington County’s Department of Human Services invites members of the media to a grand opening and ribbon cutting for the South Irving Street Group Home, a new home for people with developmental disabilities.
This new home was designed and is constructed to provide permanent residence for up to six individuals with developmental and physical disabilities across their lifespans, regardless of physical and behavioral support needs. The new home will be staffed 24 hours a day with Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who will assist each resident with activities of daily living and care. The DSPs will be supervised by a House Manager and Program Manager.
Per the objective of the County’s Facility Sustainability Policy, the new home was designed and constructed to be energy efficient -- it is a net-zero energy home, with a number of innovative strategies to reduce its environmental impact, including a geothermal heating and cooling system and solar panels.
