REPORTS
BURGLARY/ASSAULT & BATTERY/DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY, 2021-11060089/11060204, 1800 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 9:30 a.m. on November 6, police were dispatched to the report of an assault just occurred and fire department units were also responding to investigate the smell of smoke and natural gas. Upon arrival inside the residential building, the suspect approached responding officers and began shouting. As the officers attempted to place the suspect into custody, he actively resisted and a brief struggled ensued before he was detained without further incident. The investigation determined that the suspect was allegedly acting irate and damaged the doors to multiple residential units. A resident of another unit heard the suspect forcibly banging on his door and opened it to investigate. The suspect then allegedly assaulted the male victim. A resident of another apartment assisted the victim out of the hallway and began to render aid prior to police arrival. The victim sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries, and was transported by medics to an area hospital. Upon entering the suspect’s residence to identify the source of the smell of natural gas, officers observed all four stove burners were turned on. It was also determined that the suspect burned an artificial wreath, which he took off of the door to one of the other units. Officers were later contacted by the resident of one of the units with a damaged door, who returned home to find that the suspect forced entry to the unit and stole various items. Idris Soyinka, 33, of Arlington, Va., was arrested and charged with Destruction of Property (x2), Assault and Battery, Burglary, and Grand Larceny, and held on no bond.
MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2021-11060063, 2500 block of Lee Highway. At approximately 6:30 a.m. on November 6, police were dispatched to the Washington Hospital Center for the report of a male victim with an apparent gun shot wound. The victim had been discharged from the hospital prior to police arrival and was no longer on scene. Based on information provided at the hospital, the victim may have been in the area of the 2500 block of Lee Highway when the incident occurred, however, the exact location and time that the incident is unknown. Officers canvased the area near the 2500 block of Lee Highway but no evidence of shots fired was located. The investigation is ongoing.
WEAPONS VIOLATION, 2021-11070036, 1900 block of N. Quinn Street. At approximately 1:52 a.m. on November 7, police were dispatched to the report of a fight. Upon arrival, it was determined that the suspect was at a party when an altercation ensued among a group of attendees. The suspect allegedly produced a firearm during the altercation and struck the victim with it, causing minor injuries. The suspect fled prior to police arrival. He is described as a Hispanic male in his 20’s, approximately 5’6”-5’7”, 130-150 lbs., with short, black, curly hair, wearing a white shirt. The investigation is ongoing.
MISSILE INTO OCCUPIED DWELLING, 2021-11070043, 3200 block of 24th Street S. At approximately 2:31 a.m. on November 7, police were dispatched to the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located a shattered glass door to a residential building. Responding officers recovered evidence confirming shots had been fired into the door. No injuries were reported. There is no suspect(s) description. The investigation is ongoing.
ATTEMPTED BURGLARY (late), 2021-11060084/11060101, 3500 block of S. Utah Street. At approximately 9:15 a.m. on November 6, police were dispatched to the late report of a destruction of property. Upon arrival, it was determined that between approximately 9:00 p.m. on November 5 and 9:10 a.m. on November 6, the unknown suspect(s) kicked in the front screen door to the victim’s residence. No entry was made inside the residence and no other items were reported damaged. Shortly after, a similar incident was reported at a residence in the 3400 block of S. Stafford Street. The victim advised that at approximately 2:00 a.m. on November 6, she was awoken to a loud bang at her front door. When she looked out of her window, she observed a White male and female standing across the street. The investigations are ongoing.
UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 2021-11050063, 300 block of N. Glebe Road. At approximately 7:58 a.m. on November 5, police were dispatched to the report of a trespassing. Upon arrival, it was determined that at approximately 7:30 a.m., an employee observed that the back door to a vacant residence had been forced open. The employee went to investigate and discovered the two unknown male suspects inside. The employee confronted the two suspects and they left the scene on foot. Arriving officers cleared the residence with negative results. Suspect One is described as a Black male with a skinny build and short black hair. Suspect Two is described as a heavyset Hispanic male with short black hair. The investigation is ongoing.
