April 17 Vehicle Crash on Washington Boulevard Now Investigated as a

ARLINGTON, Va. — A vehicle crash that occurred during the early morning hours of April 17, 2021, is now being investigated as a fatality after the driver of one of the involved vehicles passed away from injuries sustained as a result of the crash.
At approximately 2:31 a.m. on April 17, police were dispatched to the area of Washington Boulevard westbound at Arlington Boulevard eastbound for the report of a crash with injuries. Upon arrival, it was determined that the driver of a tractor trailer was slowing down as he approached the Arlington Boulevard overpass when he was rear-ended by a pick-up truck. Arriving officers and medics rendered aid to the driver, who was subsequently extricated from the pick-up truck by the Arlington County Fire Department. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Eduardo Mendez-Aranda, 19, of Arlington, Va., was transported by medics to an area hospital with critical injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on April 27, 2021.
