Police Receive 2019 Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge Award

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Arlington County Police Department received top honors in the Municipal 5: 301-600 Officers Category in the 2019 Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge Awards. The awards are based on entries prepared by participating law enforcement agencies across Virginia which highlight their traffic safety education and enforcement activities in the areas of occupant protection, impaired driving and speed over the past calendar year. Judges award points to the agencies in the six areas that comprise a comprehensive traffic safety program: problem identification, policies, planning, training of officers, public information and education, enforcement, and an evaluation of the outcomes of the agency's efforts.

"The 2019 Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge Award is a testament to the tireless efforts of Arlington County Police officers to enhance safety for all travelers on our roadways through education and enforcement," said M. Jay Farr, Chief of Police. "We are honored that our traffic safety program efforts to help prevent future loss of life on our roadways and improve the overall quality of life in Arlington County were recognized as among the best across Virginia."

About the Awards

The Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge (LEC), coordinated by the Virginia Association of Chief of Police, is a traffic safety program that recognizes agencies that excel in keeping their roadways safe. The LEC is designed to strengthen and support traffic safety and provides agencies an opportunity to make a difference in the communities they serve, learn from each other, and establish future goals in traffic education and enforcement.
