Arlington, VA – In the summer of 2018, eleven Virginia painters traveled to Venice for adventure and a plein air painting expedition. The result of their amazing trip is “The Light of Venice,” a group show in the Focus Gallery. The artists on exhibition are Jane McElvany Coonce, Linda Donaldson, Cindy Donohoe, Meg Mackenzie, Jessica Mickey, Jean Moore, Liz Schaeffer, Nancy Snell, Agnes Yackshaw, and Patti Yoder. Come experience the magic these creative women found in the irresistible light and sights of a favorite city in Italy.
Also featured are new works for June by Gallery members in the main gallery including paintings, sculpture, glass, jewelry, ceramics, metalwork and woodworking.
Located in the Crystal City Shops at 2100 Crystal Drive, Arlington, VA 22202, this visual arts venue showcases the work of established and emerging regional artists. It is one of two large gallery spaces for the 200-member Arlington Artists Alliance; the other is Gallery Clarendon at 2800 Clarendon Blvd. in Arlington.
Each month the gallery changes its entire exhibit and presents a new show from its talented members in many forms: paintings, sculpture, glass and ceramic work, jewelry, mixed media and photography. Gallery Underground anchors the visual arts component of Crystal City’s Art Underground, and on First Fridays (first Friday of every month), it hosts an art reception free and open to all from 5-8pm, along with Crystal City’s Art Underground “First Friday” events where you can also jam at ArtJamz Underground, take a stroll along the Fotowalk, and catch a show at Synetic Theater.
In addition to its monthly rotating exhibitions, Gallery Underground hosts a variety of community events, like lunchtime paint-ins and dance and musical performances. The gallery has been voted “Best Art Gallery” in Arlington Magazine’s “Best of Arlington” survey, and was selected “Best Gallery, Crystal City” by Washingtonian Magazine. Gallery Underground is sponsored by the Arlington Artists Alliance (AAA), in partnership with the Crystal City Business Improvement District (BID), and JBG Smith.
