If you have fully recovered from COVID-19, you may be able to help patients currently with the infection by donating your plasma.
Here are local resources for people who have recovered from COVID-19 and want to learn how to donate “convalescent” plasma. Convalescent plasma is used to collect antibodies from a person who has recovered from an infection, in this case COVID-19. These antibodies may help to treat those with severe COVID-19 illness.
To learn more about convalescent blood plasma donation in response to COVID-19, visit the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website.
The following organizations offer plasma donation opportunities in the Arlington County area:
- American Red Cross (Red Cross)
- Red Cross – Virginia Hospital Center
- Children’s National Medical Center – Convalescent Plasma Program
- INOVA – Convalescent Plasma COVID-19 Donor Program
To qualify for a COVID-19 convalescent blood plasma donation, many organizations require a lab confirmation for COVID-19 and recovery from the infection before making a donation. Organizations may also have age/weight requirements. For more details on specific eligibility criteria to donate, visit each organization’s website.
