Teen Police Academy with Arlington County Police Department – Apply Now through June 11: Rising 10th-12th grade students are invited to apply for the ACPD Teen Police Academy to learn how the police department operates and its role in the community. Learn more here.

Site Plan Review Committee Public Meeting – Hybrid on June 12, 7 p.m.: Join the SRPC at 2100 Clarendon Blvd. Room 311 or virtually for a public meeting to hear an educational primer on Site Plan Conditions.

Draft Forestry and Natural Resources Revised Plan (FNRP) – In-Person Open House on June 14: Join us at Lubber Run Community Center for an in-person open house to explore and provide feedback on the draft Forestry and Natural Resources Revised Plan (FNRP). Stop by anytime between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. to speak with project staff and learn how to get involved with various programs and services that help support elements of the plan. RSVP here. Fairfax Drive and Kirkwood Road Intersection Project – Feedback Form through June 19: Arlington County is proposing changes to improve the safety and accessibility of this intersection. Arlington County’s Condition of Private Property Ordinance – Feedback Form through Jun 22: Share community feedback on the proposed changes to the County's Condition of Private Property Ordinance as it relates to weeds, managed landscapes, and other growth in lawn areas, including trees at risk of failure that present a danger or hazard to public health or safety. Arlington Transit Strategic Plan Kick Off Meeting – Virtual on June 21 at 7 p.m.: Join Arlington County staff for a kick-off of the next phase of feedback for the Arlington Transit Strategic Plan (ATSP). At this meeting you'll be able to provide feedback on ART Bus the Draft Recommendations for each route, with a focus on frequency, service start and end times, and route changes. Visit the project page to learn more.

Walter Reed Outdoor Pickleball Court Project – Feedback Form through June 22: Explore two draft concepts for pickleball at Walter Reed, which were informed by feedback from over 1,300 community members during the first phase of public engagement—and share your feedback here.  Neighborhood Complete Streets Commission Funding Hearing – Virtual Meeting on June 26, 7:30 p.m.: Join the NCSC as they consider three neighborhood street improvement projects for funding in the Arlington Mill, Highland Park-Overlee Knolls and Arlington Heights neighborhoods. Arlington County 2023 Camp Registration – Feedback Form through Jun 26: The Department of Parks and Recreation recently made some improvements to their registration system leading up to Summer Camp 2023 registration, but they need your help to make sure they got it right. Share your experience with the summer camp registration process. Your feedback will ensure that everyone can have a memorable summer full of sunny days, new friends, and exciting adventures. 

Homeownership: What's the Role of Local Government – Feedback Form through July 7: What role should local government play in helping households buy and maintain homes? What would most help to increase access to homeownership among racial minorities? Help us answer these questions and develop a homeownership vision and goals for Arlington County. National Night Out – In-Person, Register by July 21: Join Arlington County in celebrating National Night Out (NNO), scheduled for August 1 from 5-8 p.m. NNO is a nationwide community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer and improve quality of life. During NNO, residents in neighborhoods are asked to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and spend the evening outside with their neighbors, police officers, firefighters and other County personnel by hosting events like cookouts, block parties and ice cream socials. Register your neighborhood organization, community group and/or business before Friday, July 21. Demographic Data Dashboard for Arlington's Civic Associations - Feedback Form: The new data dashboard breaks down Population and Demographic Estimates for Arlington's civic associations. The dashboard is in beta form, and the County is asking the community to test the dashboard and provide feedback

Performance Parking Pilot - Feedback Form: Share your thoughts on the Performance Parking Pilot project. Visit the project page to watch the recording, and learn about project goals, timelines, and the sensor technology. 

2500 Wilson Boulevard (Request to Advertise, Issued May 13, 2023): Changing the 2500 Wilson Boulevard Block, following a Tier I Special GLUP Study, from the “Low Office-Apartment-Hotel" to “Medium Office-Apartment-Hotel" designation. The amendment comes at the request of TMG 2500 Wilson Boulevard LLC, which submitted an application for a Special GLUP study for this property and has expressed interest in future redevelopment. Members of the public can register to speak at public hearings on these items once they are scheduled, and registration opens approximately a week before the meeting. Before a public hearing is held, the Board can receive email feedback at countyboard@arlingtonva.us

3108 Columbia Pike (Request to Advertise, Issued May 13, 2023): Amending the Facility Map and Table to facilitate the creation of a publicly-owned parking lot, located at 3108 Columbia Pike. This property was acquired by the County in March 2022 after it was identified as a potential site for a future Columbia Pike branch library and for a potential co-location of County Board priorities, such as affordable housing. In the interim, staff recommends demolishing the existing office building at this site, which is not fit for re-use, to expand parking for lease to Arlington Public Schools. Members of the public can register to speak at public hearings on these items once they are scheduled, and registration opens approximately a week before the meeting. Before a public hearing is held, the Board can receive email feedback at countyboard@arlingtonva.us.

Sunrise Senior Living Facility at 2000 N. Glebe Road (Request to Advertise, Issued May 13, 2023): Changing the status of the area located at the northwestern corner of North Glebe Road and 20th Street North" from Residential (1-10 units/acre) to Low-Medium Residential. The amendment comes at the request of Sunrise Development, Inc., which is seeking to rebuild the current facility into a new three- to four-story assisted living facility comprising approximately 85 senior housing units and below-grade parking. Members of the public can register to speak at public hearings on these items once they are scheduled, and registration opens approximately a week before the meeting. Before a public hearing is held, the Board can receive email feedback at countyboard@arlingtonva.us

 

Highlights from Previous Opportunities

Broadband Resource Evaluation and Needs Assessment: This is the first phase of a study that addresses the current state of broadband and digital inclusion in Arlington County and assesses the federal, state, and local tactics and tools currently available and their ability to eliminate any gaps in access. Walter Reed Outdoor Pickleball Court: The project team gathered over 1,300 responses from community members for the Walter Reed Outdoor Pickleball Court project. Many themes and core issues emerged in this data which provides a summary that captures and shares what we heard, as well as raw data. The team has read through all your comments and is working with project consultants to draft further potential concepts. Take a look at the project timeline and plan to join the April 2023 recessed meeting to learn more.

Military Road and Nelly Custis Drive Roundabout: Community feedback gathered in the summer of 2022 sought roundabout improvements to reduce visual clutter, improve yield rates, and reduce confusion for all intersection users. The interim updates will be followed by a permanent round about installation at this intersection. Check in for project updates here and check out this VDOT video and information page for tips on navigating a roundabout as a motorist, pedestrian, and cyclist.

Missing Middle Update – Expanded Housing Options Adopted: On Wednesday, March 22, the Arlington County Board voted to expand housing options in portions of the County that currently only allow single-detached homes, concluding the multi-year process of the Missing Middle Housing Study. Learn more.

Stormwater Utility Implementation: The County Board held a work session on the Stormwater Utility Implementation on January 31.  Staff presented recommendations for the utility which were shaped by the engagement process over the past year. Based on feedback received during the engagement process, the County Board directed staff to defer the first stormwater utility bill until May 2024The Board preliminarily agreed with the proposed credit program and rate structure. Please view the presentation or work session video for more information.

N. Sycamore Street Complete Streets Project: The engagement summary of feedback on the concept design for the North Sycamore Street Complete Streets Project is available. Analysis of the summary will help inform a final design, which is anticipated to be share in Fall 2023. 

Plan Langston Boulevard Preliminary Concept Plan: The Plan Langston Boulevard team held a series of engagement opportunities, including virtual community meetings to answer questions, listen to feedback, and discuss the PCP.

 

FY 2024 Budget Engagement: In December and January, the County asked for feedback from the community on the annual operating budget for the next fiscal year. Over 2,400 participants weighed in, either online or in-person, and the County Manager considered this feedback as he developed his proposed FY 2024 Budget. Columbia Pike Transportation: In the past months, the County has collected feedback from the public about two trails near the Columbia Pike community. The feedback has been organized and is ready for you to review. Community members shared feedback on Arlington Boulevard Trail, Army Navy Country Club Connector Trail, Segment H and I, and the Columbia Pike Partnership hosted the second annual State of the Pike event.

1,500+ Volunteers at MLK Day of Service: Volunteer Arlington hosted their 6th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service where service projects like these highlights were shared. The Beloved Community Award was presented to Saundra Green during this time. Explore volunteer opportunities in Arlington.

Stormwater Facility Zoning Study: Learn how Arlington County manages its stormwater in the zoning study. Zoning standards may change for easier access to management facilities in public spaces. View the meeting video and presentation slides to learn about the stormwater management zoning study and the engagement process. 

Arlington Addiction Recovery Initiative: Volunteers with AARI rolled out a successful year in 2022. They hosted events, facilitated presentations, and shared many resources with the community to respond to substance abuse and support recovery in Arlington. Vision Zero Year 2 Mid-Year Report & Public Meeting: Arlington’s Year 2 Vision Zero Mid-Year Report is out! The report provides an overview of Arlington’s progress toward each of the action items from the Vision Zero Action Plan and highlights key accomplishments and things to come in Year 2 of our safety program.

Pedestrian Awareness in Arlington County: Arlington County targets transportation safety through the Vision Zero Critical Crash Campaign. The Transportation team held a variety of public engagement processes this year. Learn about the community's input on school slow zone demonstrations. Missing Middle Housing Study Information SessionsThe County Board hosted three information sessions touching on several key topics related to Missing Middle housing. Recordings of the sessions are available for viewing on YouTube and archived here.

Transit Strategic Plan: The Arlington Transit Strategic Plan project team held a virtual public meeting followed by a series of pop-up events in Fall 2022 to gather input on experiences using Arlington Transit, and to draft goals and objectives of the plan. South Four Mile Run Drive Complete StreetsThe project team for the S. Four Mile Run Drive Complete Streets Project – Phase 2 (S. Walter Reed Drive to S. Nelson Street) Complete Streets began an engagement process in fall 2021 on two concept designs including two community meetings in August and June 2022, a pop-up event, stakeholder conversations and an online feedback form. The next milestone for this project will use feedback to finalize a concept design for implementation in spring 2023.

Crystal City Second Entrance Meeting: The Crystal City Metrorail Station project team held a virtual design update public meeting on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. Learn about the most recent designs for the east entrance to the station and the next steps for this transit project. 2700 S Nelson St. Placemaking PlanThe Graham Projects design team and Arlington County officials implemented a variety of community engagement strategies to collect responses on public art and placemaking. Learn about the process that will ultimately lead to a new and inclusive outdoor public space for arts and performances.  

 Proposed FY 2023 - FY 2032 Capital Improvement Plan: The County Manager presented his proposed FY 2023- 2032 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) to the County Board on May 17, 2022. Learn about the proposal and review resources including the CIP engagement summary and analysis documents.

CC2DCA Engagement Summary: The Crystal City to Ronald Regan Washington International Airport Multimodal Connection (CC2DCA) study team has prepared updates to share with the community. Learn about public response in the second round of engagement that took place last winter, and next steps for analysis ahead of the next round of engagement anticipated for the fall of 2022. See the newsletter:

Vision Zero in Arlington: Arlington County transportation staff and our partners have been working hard to deliver projects, programs, and policies to reduce serious transportation crashes in our community. We are excited to share our first Vision Zero Mid-Year Progress Report. The report details action from 2021, as well as action coming in 2022.  Learn more about Vision Zero.

Community Oversight Board and Independent Policing Auditor: To improve transparency and accountability in the police department, the County Board has established a Community Oversight Board (COB) with independent investigative and subpoena power, and an Independent Policing Auditor.
