Complete

Construction began in June 2020 and was completed in late 2021.

  • Portions of the project area will be reduced to one lane in each direction on North Glebe Road during construction work hours. Construction work hours are 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.

About the Project

This project rehabilitated an existing 36-inch transmission water main of prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP) that has been out of service since 2013, after a parallel main was installed. Rehabilitating this main provides redundancy and reliability to the water system.

Rehabilitation included removing and replacing approximately 720 feet of main and slip lining approximately 3,400 feet. Slip lining is a method of inserting a slightly smaller pipe into an existing pipe. Slip lining greatly reduces the amount of disturbance, since a trench does not need to be dug for the entire length. Excavation pits are required at various points to install the new pipe.

About the Process

This project involved the replacement and rehabilitation of infrastructure along the same corridor. Water service disruptions were at a minimal to non-existent. Advance notice of any disruptions given to residents. All work done during the construction working hours stated above.

Funding

The North Glebe Road PCCP Water Main Rehabilitation Project is budgeted in the utilities portion of the FY 2019 – FY 2028 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).
