W&OD Trail – East Falls Church Connection Alternatives Analysis

In May 2019, Arlington County received approval from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments for a Technical Assistance project to study a major gap in the Washington and Old Dominion (W&OD) rail-trail in East Falls Church, where the trail ends and routes users through Benjamin Banneker Park and on residential streets. The study was funded by a grant from the Transportation Land-Use Connection Program.

A total of five potential structural alignments and six on-road alternative solutions were evaluated to address this gap. Preferred alternatives include one structural alternative, involving an overhead crossing of North Sycamore Street, and one on-road alternative, involving protected bike lanes on 19th Street North and North Tuckahoe Street.
