Arlington Community Foundation – ARLCF Scholarship/apply $1,000-$10,000
check back 2021.

Arlington County Scholarship Fund for Teachers Inc. Scholarship is for graduating senior with a genuine interest in the field of education, such as teacher, career training, speech therapy, music, librarians, etc. Selection is based on potential interest and ability to be successful in the field of education, scholarship, evidence of school and community service, extracurricular activities. The application includes both an explanation of financial need and a short essay on personal reasons for choosing this career field. Deadline March 4.

Arlington Gay & Lesbian Alliance College Scholarship Fund Each AGLA scholarship provides up to 3 $1,000 scholarships to college-bound Arlington HS seniors.

Arlington Public School County Scholarships

County Council of PTA Deadline: March 3.

The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia has twenty active scholarship funds that award approximately $175,000 each year in college scholarships to help approximately 80 Northern Virginia students attend the college of their choice.  Some scholarships are region-wide, others are specific to one or more high schools. Unless otherwise noted, scholarships are for full-time attendance at an accredited college or university.

The Arlington School Administrators Scholarship
$1,000-$2500 scholarships to candidates who submit applications that include an essay about why they have chosen to enter the teaching or related profession and must be interviewed by the members of the organization. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of student potential and desire to teach, as demonstrated in past activities, accomplishments, and future plans. Deadline: March 5

Northern Virginia Alumnae Chapter (NoVAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, IncClass of 2020 scholarships for high school seniors residing the County of Arlington, and the area of Fairfax County with an Alexandria mailing address. Up to $15,000 ELIGIBILITY: minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or greater on a 4.0 scale as verified by an official high school transcript. Plan to attend the accredited college or university in fall of 2020.

The Army Officers’ Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area Scholarship
Criteria: must be son or daughter of an active-duty, retired or deceased Army officer or enlisted soldier, a senior, enrolled in post-secondary program. Selection based on official transcript, SAT/ACT scores, extracurricular activities, 200- to 300-word essay, letter of recommendation, photocopy of military ID.

SMYAL LGBT Youth Leadership Awards
Individual college scholarships of up to $2,000 for DC Metro Area students who have demonstrated leadership in their school or community, up to $8,000 of financial support to self-identified LGBT seniors.

Student-Athlete Scholarship for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, or Transgender Students
Criteria: live in Metro DC area, self-identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, graduating senior, demonstrate active involvement in athletics or competitive sports, plan to attend 4-year program.
Needed: personal essay, two letters of recommendation, demonstrated dedication to both academic and athletic excellence. Scholarship is for at least $2,000.
Deadline: June 15.

Northern Virginia Athletic Directors, Administrators and Coaches Association
These scholarships are for qualified senior athletes, managers, trainers and cheerleaders from 30 high schools in the Region. There are 21 scholarships of $3,500 each:

  • 1 female student
  • 1 male student
  • a student who serves as athletic trainer and plans to pursue a career in health care
  • a physically challenged student
  • student planning a career in early childhood/elementary education
  • a two-year letter winner in either interscholastic baseball or softball

The scholarship committee considers financial need (family-perceived), athletic involvement, academic program, GPA, writing skills, leadership ability, school and community involvement and recommendation.
Deadline: March 4.

Arlington County Board awards to graduates of Arlington high schools who plan to attend Northern Virginia Community College and are interested in pursuing careers in public service. Esperanza Education Fund awards scholarships $5000 – $20,000 to immigrant students and students who have two immigrant parents in DC, Md., and Va. to attend public colleges and universities. Students are eligible for the scholarship regardless of ethnicity, national origin, or immigration status. Application online. Contact lucian.martinez@esperanzafund.org.

VDOE Granville P. Meade Scholarship

Arlington County Sheriff’s Office Scholarship
Criteria: Arlington County resident, planning to attend a Virginia college or university and majoring in criminal justice (not as a lawyer) or law enforcement. Check with your counselor’s office. Materials needed are transcript, acceptance to college, SAT/ACT scores and an essay.
Deadline: April 13.

VAWI Scholarship Essay Contest For seniors from Arlington County Public Schools to assist students in Virginia and to increase awareness of the functions of the legislative and judicial branches of the government. A  panel of women judges will read and judge a persuasive, substantive and grammatical 500-word essay on the topic, “The benefits of full participation of women in the legislative and judicial branches of government.” Further details are available, along with the application, from your counselor. Each student will also conduct a phone interview with at least one member of the General Assembly and one judge. $500.

The Jackie Robinson Foundation
Eligibility: graduating minority senior who plans to attend 4-year college, shows leadership potential, demonstrates a dedication to community service and evidence of financial need, is a US citizen, and has a minimum SAT score of 1,000 or ACT combined score of 22. Required components: online application, one letter of recommendation, SAT or ACT scores sent from testing agency, transcript and FAFSA Student Aid Report.
Deadline: March 30. Scholarships up to $7,000.

ADHD College Scholarship Program
Criteria: application, personal essay (500 words), letter of recommendation, ADHD Coaching Question, community, volunteer and extracurricular activities, confirmation of diagnosis of ADHD.
Scholarship is for $2,000, plus one year of ADHD coaching. Deadline: March 30.

Scholarships for Students with Disabilities

The Esperanza Education Fund
Eligibility: must have been born outside the US or have two parents born outside the US, be a graduating senior from Virginia and be enrolled in an accredited public college or university. Selection based on qualities traditionally valued and demonstrated by the immigrant community: hard work, resourcefulness, perseverance in the face of adversity, academic achievement, leadership and commitment to one’s community. Scholarships of at least $5,000 and up to $20,000.
Deadline: April 1.

Izaak Walton League of America Scholarship
Scholarship is for a graduating senior pursuing a course of studies leading to either an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in environmental science or a related field of study.
Criteria: financial need, academic achievement, individual character, community achievement or activities, and demonstration of an ability to succeed in college.
Scholarship is for $12,000, at $3,000 a year, renewable.
Deadline: April 1

ESA Youth Scholarship Program
Eligibility: graduating high school senior accepted by an accredited college or university whose mother or father is a full-time paid member of the police, sheriff or fire department or a volunteer member of the fire department.
Selection is based on a combination of academic achievement, test scores, extracurricular participation, essay and letters of recommendation. Scholarship is $1,000.
Deadline: March 27

AFCEADC Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to high school seniors entering a four-year degree-granting institution and pursuing a degree in related fields of electrical, computer, chemical, aerospace or systems engineering; electronics, mathematics, computer science, physics, science or math education; technology management; or management information systems. Selection is based on academic achievement, school activities, community/civic activities, part-time work, letters of recommendation and financial need (other factors count more). One $8,000 two-year scholarship and one $12,000 scholarship. Deadline: April 25.

Commonwealth Circle of Northern Virginia Scholarship
A nonrenewable scholarship for a graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding talent in the fine arts and plans to pursue higher education.
Criteria: exhibits excellence in fine arts, extracurricular activities, community service and potential for future success, minimum GPA of 3.0, citizen of US, planning to actively continue pursuit of the fine art at post-secondary level.
Scholarship amount TBA (at least $1,000 or more).
Needed: Art Portfolio illustrating your work.

NORTHERN VIRIGNIA B’NAI B’RITH SPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS
Any senior year student attending high school in the counties of Fairfax, Arlington,Prince William, Stafford and Loudoun, and in the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church may submit an application. Applications must be received by April 20

Done Vida Scholarship
Criteria: a Latino senior planning on attending a 2- or 4-year post-secondary institution.
Scholarship: 1st place – $2,000; 2nd place – $1,000; 3rd place – $500.

Psychology Scholarships

A Guide to Scholarships and Financial Aid for Students with Disabilities

Foot Locker Athletes: high school senior planning on attending Northern Virginia Community College and pursuing studies leading to a public service career. The following documents must be submitted by the deadline; application form, most recent transcript, letter of recommendation, and a personal essay.
The scholarship is $500 – $2,000 per year. Applications must be submitted by May 1.

Young Ambassadors Program
This program is for a graduating senior who is interested in being a Latino leader in the arts, sciences, and humanities via the Smithsonian Institution. This is a college preparatory and leadership program encouraging participants to explore various academic and career opportunities through the lens of the Latino experience. The program includes an intensive week-long interdisciplinary training seminar at the Smithsonian followed by a four-week paid internship in museums and cultural institutions across the US and Puerto Rico.
Deadline: April 9.

USDA/1890 National Scholars Program
This is a partnership with the US Department of Agriculture and 1890 Historically Black Land Grant Universities. Eligibility requirements: US citizen, GPA 3.0+, combined SAT/writing 1500, ACT 21, applied one of eighteen Historically Black Land-Grant Institutions; intend to study agriculture, food, national resources. Demonstrated leadership and community service, transcript.
Scholarship: full tuition, employment with USDA, fees, books, room & board, use of laptop.

Jewish Social Service Agency Scholarships
This organization has scholarships for Jewish students in the metro DC area. Most of the scholarships are based on financial need.
Deadline: May 4.

Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship
Multiple scholarships offered by TBM (Tomorrow’s Black Men Inc). Two state awards ($500 and $1,000) and one regional award of $2,500. Apply for one state award and for the regional award. Must be a US citizen, male or female, graduating and attending 4-year institution, meet GPA and SAT/ACT scores requirements, present essay to committee, and attend award ceremony. Selection based on academic merit, community service/activities, essay/interview and letters of recommendation.
Award #1 – $500 – GPA  2.0-3.0, SAT 850 minimum.
Award #2 – $1,000 – GPA 0 3.0 or higher, SAT – 1300.
Award #3 – $2,500 – GPA – 3.5 or higher, SAT – 1850

WIkibuy offers a $2,500 scholarship for business majors/minors, with a special consideration given to students who are interested in a career in e-commerce and online retail.
Deadline: Submissions (including essay) must be received by August 20 Minimum GPA: 3.4 Eligible fields of study: Business Administration and Management, Business, finance, accounting, or other related business degrees. Both majors and minors are accepted. Austin-based Wikibuy was founded by serial entrepreneur and online retail pioneer Jonathan Coon (1-800-CONTACTS, Glasses.com).

Virginia Mayflower Society $1,620 Scholarship
Scholarship is for high school seniors who have a GPA of B or better. Selection is based on brief personal resume, official transcript, 1,500-word essay on “Why couldn’t the spirituality of the Pilgrims be accommodated with the religious mores of 17th century England?” and the application. Legacy of Life Scholarship
First-place award of $5,000 and third-place award of $3,000 and $1,000 honorable mentions. Must be a persuasive argument and can be fiction or nonfiction. Judging is based on originality, persuasiveness and passion of argument, proper grammar and spelling and citation of correct information.
Deadline: March 31.

VIP 5th Annual Women in Technology Scholarship (WITS) Program
Evaluation criteria – academic performance (must have 3.0 GPA or better), essay, and level of participation in community service and/or extracurricular activities. Application is online or from your counselor.
Scholarship is $2,500.
Deadline: March 15.

Student Insights Student View Scholarship Program
One $4,000, two $1,000 and eight $500 scholarships. Winners are chosen in a random drawing. Simply log on and complete 15- to 20-question survey about colleges. No SAT/ACT, no essay.

The Princeton Prize in Race Relations recognizes and rewards high school students who have had a significant positive effect on race relations in their schools or communities through their volunteer efforts.
