Arlington County is working to promote the use of advanced building energy management practices to reduce energy waste in County facilities.
Arlington implements the County Operations Energy Plan (COEP) to guide how it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions in County facilities and operations. The COEP is a complement to the Community Energy Plan (CEP) and furthers goal areas and strategies that are specific to Arlington County Government operations.

Establish a cross-County energy working group that will discuss progress, share ideas, and serve as energy champions. Incentivize smart energy behavior for County employees and facilities users.
Arlington is on the way to achieving its 2050 greenhouse gas emissions target for carbon neutrality. Milestones include 67% reduction below 2007 CO2e levels by 2030 and an 84% below 2007 CO2e levels by 2040. Here are some of the areas where our carbon footprint has seen the biggest improvement:
