Permit Office Service Changes Due to COVID-19

The Arlington County Permit Office is ONLINE ONLY. See the Ongoing Services section below for details.

Many services remain available online.

Ongoing Services:

  • Meetings and customer interactions will take place virtually to the fullest extent possible.
  • In-person fire, structural, building and trade inspections are available on Tuesday and Thursday only. Most inspections may be completed virtually. Learn more.
  • Permits and applications available in Permit Arlington or ePlan Review, including building permits, sign permits, fence permits, etc. must be submitted online.
  • Certificate of Occupancy applications must be submitted via email to contactzoning@arlingtonva.us. If applicable, plans should be submitted with the application (maximum file size 25 MB). 
  • Zoning complaints must be submitted via email to zoningenforcement@arlingtonva.us or by phone (703-228-3883). 

Suspended Services:

  • In-person customer service.
  • In-person payments (see below).
  • All paper applications.

Payments:

  • Online payment has been implemented for all permit and application types.
  • In-person and mailed payments are suspended.

Processing Times:

The County is currently maintaining published time frames, but this is subject to change as the situation evolves.
