Crush Funk Brass

The Crush Funk Brass Band is a brilliant, innovative group of young musicians hailing from Washington DC. Comprised of alums from The University of The District of Columbia, Bowie State University, Howard University and IU.

Influenced by all genres of music, the band’s style is unique, embodying the brass tones of New Orleans, with an Urban Capital City modern pop-fun(k) twist.

The mission of the band is simple: “To bring life to the city through music where least expected, to enrich the lives of others and to continue growing and striving for high musical excellence.”

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Crush Funk Brass Band has done over 300 + of their one hour Cabin Fever Concert Series throughout the DC, Maryland and Virginia areas. Helping to bring awareness to mental health through music, to support small/local businesses and giving back to the community. “Our Community service to mental health, through music.”

Crush Funk has traveled performing along the east coast into the south, from Maryland to New Orleans. Having performed for weddings, birthdays and corporate galas,the band has had the distinct honor to lead the funeral procession for the late Dick Gregory and the “Say Their Name” procession. Some other performances and venues include: The Pew Foundation,The Rock Creek Conservancy,  2020 virtual wammie awards, Funk Parade, Emancipation Day, DC State fair, The World Bank, Harve de Grace, International Jazz Day, Art All Night,Smithsonian, Embassy of France and The Kennedy Center to name a few.  notes of mention: They were finalists for the 2021 Wammie Awards  in the category for the “Do Good” award. 

The band has appeared on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Good Morning America, NBC, ABC, Fox5, CBS , The Washington Post, New York Times and WPFW.

The Lubber Run Summer Concert Series will run Friday, June 9 through August 11, 2023, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 11am.
