About Us

The Sheriff’s Office serves more than 220,000 residents with 270 employees, including sworn deputy sheriffs and civilian staff. The Sheriff is an elected official independent from the local government. A State Constitutional Officer, the Sheriff serves a term of four (4) years in office with the right of succession. The current Sheriff of Arlington County is Sheriff Jose Quiroz, Jr.

What We Do

• Manage County detention facility
• Oversee Courthouse/courtroom security (Juvenile, Domestic Relations, County Circuit, and General District courts)
• Transport inmates to court, state facilities, and medical/other appointments
• Serve summonses, court orders and other civil processes issued by the court
• Collect delinquent taxes
• Assist in traffic enforcement as well as special details within the County

What We Don’t Do

• Police, not the Sheriff’s Office, serve as primary law enforcement for local, state and some federal laws.
• Police are the primary traffic and parking enforcement agency.
