Monthly Transportation Safety Highlight: Click It or Ticket Campaign Starts May 22
Warmer weather means more travelers are utilizing our roadways to arrive at their vacation destinations. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were 11,813 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes throughout the United States in 2021. That’s why the Arlington County Police Department is partnering with NHTSA to remind drivers about the lifesaving benefits of wearing a seat belt during the annual Click It or Ticket campaign. This high-visibility national seat belt campaign, which coincides with the Memorial Day holiday, runs from May 22 through June 4, 2023.
Virginia law requires everyone under the age of 18 to be properly secured in a safety belt or child safety seat, no matter where they are sitting in the vehicle, and the driver is responsible for making sure this happens. Everyone wants you to arrive at your destination safely, so it’s critical to practice safe driving habits, like buckling your seat belt, every time, on every trip.
