Lend a Hand -- Together We Can Make a Difference

Volunteer opportunities abound in the Department of Parks and Recreation. You can volunteer to assist at fun special events like Family Skate Night and Arlington Palooza, help individuals with disabilities learn to swim, help to remove invasive plants from our parks, and much more.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Adapted Aquatics
The Adapted Aquatics program needs volunteers! Adapted Aquatics is a learn-to-swim program for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Volunteers will work one-on-one with participants in the water to strengthen and develop basic swim skills. Volunteers must be strong swimmers, comfortable in the water and enthusiastic about helping people learn.
  • Remove Invasive Plants (RIP), Native Plant Nursery, Restoration Planting, Citizen Science
Join your neighbors as they restore the area’s natural plant communities. Help remove plants like English ivy and bush honeysuckle which threaten the health of Arlington’s parks and natural areas. Please visit the Remove Invasive Plants program page for more information, or sign up right now here. There are also opportunities in the County's Native Plant Nursery, help with Restoration Planting or participating in Citizen Science

If you are attending a volunteer event, we’ll have a sign in sheet there. If you are interested in becoming a regular volunteer at a site, or have been asked to register as a DPR volunteer, please complete the following registration form here:
