Volunteer with Arlington County Summer Camps

Look for Summer 2024 Opportunities in February 2024!

The summer camp volunteer program is a wonderful opportunity for teens who want to have fun while contributing to their community. Volunteers assist the camp staff in all the fun and exciting activities campers enjoy, including field trips, arts and crafts, swimming, games and more. If you are seeking a professional or personal development opportunity, volunteering can be extremely rewarding. It is an opportunity to make friends, work with children in a supervised setting and gain valuable experience in a leadership role.

For other volunteer options this summer visit our Parks & Recreation volunteer site or Volunteer Arlington, for a list of local opportunities.

Volunteer Guidelines

  • Volunteers are placed on a first come first serve basis (camp assignments are not finalized until all paperwork is complete).
  • Volunteers must be at least 13 years old, by May 1, and at least two years older than the oldest camper in the program at which they are placed. No exceptions.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to work for a minimum of three weeks (they do not need to be consecutive weeks).
  • Volunteers are scheduled to work during the core program hours and may work some of the extended hours. No volunteer can work more than eight hours per day.
  • Volunteers are placed only at selected camps operated by Arlington County Department of Parks and Recreation, not in partner camps.
  • We do not place volunteers at camp locations where they were campers the previous summer or where family members are current campers.
  • Our goal is to place volunteers in the programs of their choice, but we cannot guarantee placements.
  • Arlington County Government is committed to the health, safety, and wellness of all volunteers and participants.  In support of that commitment, all volunteers are required to provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination prior to volunteering.  Adherence to this policy is a condition of volunteering. We will continue to monitor the health and safety of concerns related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Volunteers may be placed onto a waiting list at any time.
