CARRT Hosts 2nd Annual Event at MLK Day of Service: On Monday, January 15, CARRT hosted its second annual “Ready, Set, Go-Bag!” session at Volunteer Arlington’s 2024 MLK Day of Service. County Board Chair Libby Garvey energetically started this session by sharing her community and energy resilience vision for the year. Over 65 MLK Day volunteers attended the in-person listen-and-learn on emergency preparedness and donated emergency go-bag supplies. Approximately 150 go-bags will be donated to AFAC’s Home Delivery Program, which assists low-income homebound residents due to illness or disability. In addition to the session, DPSCEM volunteers staffed a welcome table and had over 400 one-on-one conversations with MLK Day attendees on the importance of emergency preparedness and signing up for Arlington Alert.
2023 Arlington County Fair: CARRT members and community volunteers staffed an emergency preparedness booth at the 2023 Arlington County Fair. Volunteers helped make Arlington more resilient by encouraging fair goers to sign up for Arlington Alert, create a family emergency plan, and gather supplies and build an emergency kit.
Flood Preparedness Pop-Ups: In honor of Arlington Preparedness Month and National Volunteer Appreciation Month, CARRT hosted a Preparedness Day of Action on Saturday, April 29th. Approximately two dozen CARRT and community volunteers helped make Arlington more flood ready by distributing flood prevention and emergency preparedness information in multiple languages. Over 450 one-on-one conversations were had with Arlington residents, business owners, and visitors in the Westover, Courthouse, and Arlington Mill neighborhoods.
Inaugural Event at MLK Day of Service: On Monday, January 16, CARRT hosted its inaugural community event at Volunteer Arlington’s MLK Day of Service. All Arlingtonians were invited to join “Ready, Set, Go-Bag!,” a session that included an in-person listen-and-learn on emergency preparedness, go-bags, and supporting neighbors in need. Approximately 130 starter go-bags were donated to AFAC’s Home Delivery Program, a service that assists low-income residents who are homebound due to illness or disability. In addition to the session, CARRT & CERT volunteers staffed a welcome table where they encouraged all 700+ MLK Day of Service in-person attendees to sign up for Arlington Alert and build an emergency kit at home.
