We are so excited to restart our weekly Virtual Project Family classes. We invite Arlington families with children 0 to 5 years of age to participate. Virtual classes will include a developmentally based curriculum. Activities for children will include letters and thematic discussion, reading time, and interactive music lessons. Project Family /Proyecto Familia supports and empowers families to enhance parenting skills for Arlington parents, gives opportunities to connect with neighbors and make new friends, links parents to community resources and information, and equips children with preschool and kindergarten school readiness skills! Weekly class schedule
- Monday from 10am to 11am
- Tuesday from 1pm to 2pm
- Wednesday from 11am to 12am
- Thursday from 9am to 10am; (Reserved for children 0 to 12 months)
- Friday from 10am to 11am; Class in Spanish
- Saturday from 10am to 11am
Classes held through Zoom. Each class cycle lasts for 7 weeks. All classes are FREE for all Arlington County residents.

Project Family/Proyecto Familia Classes
Descripción del Programa
Project Family focuses on the whole child and teaches parents activities to promote the child’s physical, language, cognitive, and social-emotional development, emphasizing the importance of routines and learning through play. Each class familiarizes parents with best practices related to child development, health, safety, and nutrition. Parents are expected and encouraged to participate fully in every class. PF implements Strengthening Families Protective Factors Framework * and each class builds:
– Parental resilience
– Knowledge of parenting and child development
– Social and emotional competence of children
– Social connections
– Concrete support in times of need

Registration is prioritized for families referred by a partnering organization and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Class size is limited.
Who can attend? Arlington parents with infants from newborn to 18 months of age
Class focus is on child development, health and safety, parenting, and routines. The class provides a supportive environment for parents with an infant to share stories, ask and answer questions, and learn from each other.
Infant class is generally for newborns-12 months (or when the child begins to walk) and is 90 minutes (Thursdays 1:00-2:30 pm).
Toddler class is generally for 13-18 months old (or whenever they begin to walk) and is one hour (Wednesdays 9:00-10:00 am).
Where is it held? Arlington Mill Community Center, 909 S. Dinwiddie Street, Arlington, VA 22204, Project Family Room #120.
Mixed-Age “Tot” Classes
Who can attend? Arlington parents with children ages 18 months up to 5 years old (or before Kindergarten)
Each 1.5 hour class includes Free Play, Circle Time, Parenting Tips, Exploring Time, and Closing Songs. Parents are expected to participate with their children in activities.
Where is it held? CURRENTLY ONLINE via ZOOM Classes meet at various locations throughout Arlington. Sites include: Arlington Mill Community Center and Gates of Ballston Community Center (4108 4th St N, Arlington, VA 22203)
When are classes held? Mornings and afternoons with various day/time options; refer to the schedule.
Inclement Weather Policy: We follow the Arlington Public Schools (APS) inclement weather status. If APS is closed, Project Family classes are cancelled at all locations. If APS has delayed opening, morning Project Family classes at all locations are cancelled. However, afternoon classes meet on regular schedule. Visit http://www.apsva.us or listen to the radio.
