National Public Works Week
WHEREAS, public works infrastructure, facilities and services are of vital importance to sustainable communities and to the health, safety and well-being of the people of Arlington County; and
WHEREAS, dedicated public works professionals in Arlington County are responsible for planning, designing, building, and operating public works facilities and services including transportation, water and waste water systems, solid waste systems, facilities, and other essential public works activities; and
WHEREAS, Arlington County recognizes the contributions of public works professionals, and extends sincere appreciation for their commitment to excellence in their efforts to improve and enhance the County’s infrastructure, services and the overall health, safety, welfare, and prosperity of the County; and
WHEREAS, 2016 marks the 56th annual National Public Works Week sponsored by the American Public Works Association, which continues to promote an understanding of and appreciation for the role public works projects play in sustaining economic growth and vitality;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Libby Garvey, Chair of the County Board of Arlington, Virginia, do hereby proclaim May 15 through 21, 2016 as
NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK
in Arlington County, and urge all residents to share their appreciation for the contributions of public works professionals and the services they provide to the community and the environment.
