Boil Water Advisory for South Arlington Ends
Published on June 09, 2024
Residents and businesses in south Arlington can resume using water from the tap for all purposes
A series of rigorous tests have determined that the system is safe following a significant water main break early Friday, June 7, at S Walter Reed Drive and S Four Mile Run Drive.
Crews were able to restore water pressure within 90 minutes of the break. Because water pressure dropped drastically, the County issued a Boil Water Advisory for southern portions of the County out of an abundance of caution.
Water samples taken through the weekend, in conjunction with the Virginia Department of Health, have confirmed that the water meets all state and federal standards.
Arlington County appreciates the patience and understanding of its residents, businesses and their customers as staff followed procedures that place public health and safety as the highest priority.
Water customers are advised to run their taps for a few minutes to release any air and sediment that may have accumulated following the break.

All lanes are now reopened on S Walter Reed Drive. Crews will need to return in a few days for follow-up work on the roadway.
