REPORTS
ROBBERY, 2023-11140223, 1300 block of S. Joyce Street. At approximately 7:40 p.m. on November 14, police were dispatched to the report of a shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival, it was determined the suspect entered the business, selected merchandise and allegedly attempted to exit without payment. Loss prevention personnel stopped the suspect during which he attempted to use force to flee. A struggle ensued before loss prevention detained the suspect and contacted police. While in police custody, suspected narcotics were recovered from his person. Charles Jones, 30, of Capital Heights, MD was arrested and charged with Robbery and Possession of I/II Controlled Substance.
THREAT IN WRITING, 2023-11140147, 2700 block of S. Lang Street. At approximately 2:07 p.m. on November 14, police were dispatched to the report of a written threat found inside Gunston Middle School. Prior to police arrival, the school was placed on lockdown. The school’s status was amended to Secure the School as officers assisted with a controlled dismissal. Based on the preliminary investigation, the threat was unsubstantiated and did not reveal an ongoing threat to the safety of the school community.
