MEDIA ALERT: Graduation Ceremony for Arlington County Fire Department
Published on April 26, 2018
The Arlington County Fire Department (ACFD) will hold a graduation ceremony for more than two dozen new Fire/EMS recruits on Fri., April 27, 2018 at Founders Hall Auditorium on the campus of George Mason University in Arlington.
Class members will be sworn in and receive their badges and helmets. Awards will be given for leadership, physical fitness, most improved physical fitness and academic performance.
The ceremony marks graduates' completion of 28 weeks of physically and mentally challenging instruction leading to certifications for Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazmat Operations, Emergency Vehicle Operations, Firefighter Rescue, and/or Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B).
The addition of these recruits is expected to return the County's firefighting force to full staffing levels, reducing the amount of overtime asked of current personnel. Along with public safety compensation increases adopted by the Arlington County Board earlier this month, these changes are expected to improve recruitment and retention of County firefighters in a competitive regional labor market.
