Arlington Inspiration, Created on a Loom

"Arlington Weaves is a place where people with disabilities can come and they can express themselves artistically and creatively," explains Elisabeth Sweet, Community Engagement Specialist at ServiceSource, a leading resource for people with disabilities.

Arlington Weaves, Etc., a signature program of the County's Department of Human Services implemented by ServiceSource, provides support to adults with developmental disabilities by teaching them technical and social skills, and by helping to improve their self-sufficiency. Participants produce sophisticated hand-woven items, ranging from tea towels to tote bags (and see 100 percent of the proceeds from items sold).

In celebration of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, held every March, Arlington TV captured this inspirational story, illustrating how teaching and learning touches everyone involved at Arlington Weaves, Etc.

The Arlington Weaves, Etc. Studio and Shop is located at 2100 Washington Blvd., on the third floor, and is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
