Arlington County Prepares for the 43rd Marine Corps Marathon

ARLINGTON, VA - The 43^rd Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) and the MCM 10K will take place on Sunday, October 28, 2018.  Opening ceremonies for the MCM begin at 6:00 AM, with the wheelchair/hand cycle division starting at 7:40 AM, on Route 110 in Arlington County, Virginia.

Law enforcement throughout the National Capital Region work collectively to keep runners, spectators and volunteers safe, however, safety is everyone's responsibility. To learn about the important role citizens' play, watch this combined safety message from the Marine Corps Marathon, Arlington County Police Department (ACPD), Virginia State Police (VSP), United States Park Police (USPP), Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) and Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

ACPD, VSP, USPP and PFPA will close multiple roadways in Arlington County in support of the race.  Additionally, the MPD and USPP will close multiple roadways in Washington, D.C. Please contact these agencies directly for information regarding their road closures.

3:00 AM—6:00 PM      Lynn Street from North Meade Street to Lee Highway

3:00 AM—6:00 PM      Fort Myer Drive from North Meade Street to Lee Highway

3:00 AM—6:00 PM      North Moore Street from Wilson Boulevard to Lee Highway

3:00 AM—6:00 PM      19th Street North from Lynn Street to North Nash Street

*** The listed re-opening times are approximate and will be dictated by the course cleanup efforts.  Other roads not listed above may be closed at law enforcement discretion to meet the needs of the event. ***

At 12:00 PM (noon) on Saturday, October 27, 2018, N. Kent Street will be closed from Wilson Blvd. to N. 19^th Street and will re-open at the conclusion of the MCM on Sunday, October 28, 2018.

Street parking in the area of the race will be restricted and motorists should be on the lookout for temporary "No Parking" signs. Illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed and towed. If your vehicle is towed from a public street, call the Emergency Communications Center at 703-558-2222.

The Marine Corps Marathon recommends that runners arrive two (2) hours prior to start time, proceed through the security checkpoint, drop off bags, and line up in the appropriate corral.

Runners are strongly encouraged to use public transportation and ride share platforms.  The Metro will open at 6 AM on Marathon Day. The closest Metro access to the start is the Pentagon station on the blue and yellow lines. Arlington Cemetery Station is the only station that will remain closed on Marathon morning until 8:30 AM.

Designated rideshare drop-off and pick-up zones has been established at the following locations:

• Morning events in Crystal City - Amy Navy Drive at S. Fern Street


• Afternoon events in Crystal City - 2400 block of Crystal Drive


• Finish Festival - 1900 block of Lee Highway
