Arlington to Buy Parkland in Aurora Highlands Neighborhood

The County Board today approved the $1.235 million purchase of a vacant lot and adjacent parcel, with a small house, to create a new park on 20
th Street South. The land will add much-needed park space in the Pentagon City area.
The 11,500 square feet of land -- about one-quarter acre -- lies on the north side of 20
th Street South and the west side of South Ives Street.
The Board voted
4 to 1 to approve the land purchase.
Community involvement
Members of the Aurora Highlands Civic Association brought the opportunity to acquire this property to the County's attention. The neighborhood has been asking for a park that is open and available for a range of casual uses such as picnicking, throwing a Frisbee or laying out on a blanket. The 2017 assessed value of the property is $1.068 million.
Funding for the acquisition will come from the Park Bond Fund.
