Take Your Living Space from Ho-Hum to Home Run with the Arlington Hom

Arlington's huge hometown Home Show and Garden Expo returns to Thomas Jefferson Community Center on Saturday, April 9.

Marking its tenth year, the free, all-day affair is packed with enough workshops, exhibits and expert advice to satisfy any first-time buyer, weekend renovator or HGTV binge-watcher.

On hand sharing tips and strategies will be more than 75 home builders, contractors, specialist vendors, architects, landscape designers, realtors and banks.

The show's new "Ask an Expert" area will feature County staff from programs including Green Home Choice, Historic Preservation, Inspection Services, Zoning and Code Enforcement Services.

The full schedule of classes ranges from "Understanding Condominium Living" to "Choosing the Right Contractor and Seven Remodeling Mistakes to Avoid." There will also be sessions in financing, repairs, ecofriendly living and selling a home.

Reservations are being accepted now for "The Landlord Seminar," covering the legal aspects and responsibilities of renting out property as a small-scale side business.

And thinking spring, Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia will be talking yards, trees and plants and how to make them thrive throughout the year.

The Thomas Jefferson Community Center is located at 3501 S. 2nd St. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free parking is available.

The Arlington Home Show and Garden Expo is sponsored by Arlington County's Department of Community Planning, Housing and Development, and the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization.
